Whale-watching tours offer an exciting way to witness the majestic Southern Right whales that come to the Cape each season to breed and calve. Whale season typically runs between August and November in the Cape, and each season, large numbers of whales can be seen along the coast. The best place to see these creatures is along the famous Whale Route, which spans along the coastline passing Gordon’s Bay, Pringle Bay and Betty’s Bay and Kleinmond on the 2 hour drive to Hermanus.
Fernkloof Nature Reserve & Harold Porter Botanical Gardens
This tour includes a visit to the beautiful Fernkloof Nature Reserve which spans 2000 hectares of mountain and coastal fynbos as well as a huge number of birds and smaller mammals. The Harold Porter Botanical Gardens is another highlight for nature-lovers, while on weekdays and Saturdays, a trip through the Hamilton Russell Wine Estate offers a glimpse into Hermanus’ viticulture. (1h)
Hermanus
As one of the top destinations for whale-watching, Hermanus is perfectly positioned to offer the best viewing directly from the shore. You will be able to watch from the famous Hermanus cliffs as these giants of the deep frolic in the waves, and launch out of the water to breach or you can choose the boat based option ( for own account ). (1h 30min)
Time permitting we will stop at Benguela Cove for a wine tasting on the return journey which takes us along the N2 and through the orchards and vineyards of Elgin.

This tour, which offers the possibility to see Whales is unfortunately not available all year round (only from August to November) but here is an alternative: the Marine Eco Tour
You will be able to observe & approach from a respectable distance the many animals living in the bay all year round without disturbing them. It is common to come across groups of dolphins, penguins, sunfish and for the lucky ones, whales!
NB This is a scheduled tour which can also be taken as a Private Tour option
